Traditional manufacturing companies are increasingly adopting subscription-based models for services and software as an add-on to their their existing core offering. This shift caters to the demand for flexibility and personalization, while also boosting customer engagement and providing a more stable revenue model. To support our customers with their subscription models, RamBase has launched a new Subscription Management solution within RamBase Cloud ERP.

What are subscription-based services?

For manufacturing companies, subscription-based models are used to deliver non-physical offerings such as services or software:

  • Services: Customers pay a recurring fee to gain access to a service, for example maintenance, support or warehousing. The fee can typically be fixed and charged on a regular basis, for example weekly, monthly or annually. 
  • Software: Customers subscribe to software licenses that enable them to access and control physical products like machinery, robots, and electrical devices. The fee can typically be charged per user or license on a regular basis, for example monthly or annually. 

It is worth nothing that this differs from the rental of physical products, which is managed through the Rental Module.

Why do customers need Subscription Management?

By selling services and software on a subscription basis, companies can secure recurring revenue, improve financial predictability, and strengthen their bottom line. This model not only enhances customer relationships engagement by supporting ongoing relationships but also unlocks new revenue opportunities through steady income streams. By delivering continuous value, businesses can expand and maximize customer lifetime value, leading to greater financial stability and more accurate long-term forecasting and planning. 

However, Jonas Pettersson, Chief Product Officer at RamBase points out that establishing such models does not come without obstacles:

And that is why we are launching Subscription Management in RamBase."
